The Oral Assist team ran a study to find the disconnect in the global education system where students with reading difficulties were not able to cope with the level their counterparts were on because of a lack of a personalized learning approach. They wanted to change that with an application that worked on the capabilities of annotations and easy documents, assignments management.

Dotting the I's and crossing the
T's with our expertise

Incident Alerts was an end-to-end software development project for us. We started by studying the different scenarios where the users would require and access real-time incident alerts. Based on the different scenarios study, we worked out categories that were divided according to the emergency types.  With the concept finalized, the execution part of the project was initiated.

Turning concepts into visuals

he design thinking approach behind Oral Assist was to create a user interface and experience that was primarily extremely easy to learn while being attractive enough for teachers and students to keep using the application.

With that in consideration, we built a design system that incorporated bold colors, icons, and a user flow that made it extremely easy for the users to move from point A to point B with minimal instructions requirements.

Executing the audio annotations-packed digital product

Following an agile mode of development, we built a system that combined multiple features of a reading-difficulty-focused edTech platform. The modus operandi was clear - make learning accessible by easing the process of reading assignments, tests, and textual, visual content.

We designed an application that was accessible, bold, and intuitive, without focusing on one age group too much. The result was a UI that centered around intuitive and clean elements with natural progressions. The goal was to require zero training to navigate the application.

Document Upload

We wanted educators to have the least hurdles when uploading assignments. To achieve this, we incorporated document scanning that allowed teachers to use their device cameras to upload assignments. Moreover, they could upload the document from their camera roll, iCloud, or Google Drive.

Educators asked for an intuitive way to record prompts and annotate documents, and we delivered just that. We developed a simple interface to draw annotations and record voice snippets to provide intuitive oral assistance in a scalable fashion.

1-2-3 Login

To provide easy access to files without credentials, we created a combination style system where teachers would pick a color, animal, and shortcode which could be input sequentially by their students to retrieve the files. Simple, fun, and effective.

We worked on two dashboards - one for teachers and one for students. Both having similar and yet different versions of the document management functionalities.

For Teachers

  • Create multiple student codes for differentiating assigned tasks to different students
  • Multiple options for uploading or scanning in assignments and tests including Camera Roll, Google Drive, iCloud Drive, and batch scanning.
  • Ability to link multiple documents to a student login code
  • Ability to add and delete color-coded audio annotations to text, graphics, and other text features.

For Students

  • View all assigned documents the on dashboard
  • Listen to audio annotations by clicking on a document
  • Playback audio recordings as often as needed through the audio speaker icons on every assigned document.
